Top 10 Interior Design Stores in Copenhagen

With so much design coming out of Scandinavia, you’re going to be spoiled for choice when it comes to interior design stores. If you’re planning a trip to copenhagen soon then you’re in for a treat.

With so many to choose from, we thought it would be a good idea to give a rundown of our top 10 favourite interior design stores here in the heart of Copenhagen. We believe that the collections from these stores suit our posters perfectly. They’re worth a visit!

1. Stilleben

The word ‘stilleben’ is a German art concept that refers to works that are made up of mostly inanimate objects. The interior design store is the brainchild of designers Ditte Reckweg and Jelena Schou Nordentoft. The pair have been travelling round the globe, handpicking products to display and sell as they go since the early 2000s.

Their wares reflect their international approach. They have Japanese teapots, Tuscan vases, and Danish textiles. Check them out for their eclectic mix of unusual objects.

2. Hay

Also founded in the early 2000s, HAY has been designing and selling its own contemporary furniture for almost two decades. It’s become a staple of modern Danish design.

No matter what you’re after, HAY is sure to have something that will catch your eye. From chairs and tables, to shelving and kitchen accessories, every piece at HAY is meticulously crafted and looks sleek!

3. Normann Copenhagen

Normann Copenhagen is a Danish design firm producing contemporary and modern designs that, in their own words, ‘withstand the test of time’ and ‘challenge conventional thinking.’ These two concepts seem difficult to add together, but they certainly manage it.

Founded in 1999, their designs build upon solid, Scandinavian design tradition. The silhouettes are often clean, but a flash of colour or unusual use of material keeps their designs fresh.

Normann Copenhagen’s influence also extends beyond this part of the world. They recently kitted out Adidas’ Shanghai office. They are right on the cutting edge!

4. Illums Bolighus

Founded in 1925, Illums Bolighus is more or less an institution in Denmark. It was the first store to have arranged and furnished example interiors that also functioned as art that people could wander through and gain inspiration from. So, the interior design store world has been changed forever by Illums Bolighus!

Their rich history isn’t the only thing which makes them worth a visit. They also sell beautiful, modern designs for every room of your house! Check them out!

5. GUBI

Covering every element of the home, this Danish design company is well loved by Danes and non-Danes alike. GUBI has beautiful, functional designs that anyone can appreciate.

GUBI is also brilliant for mixing the functional, Scandi aesthetic with something more regal. They are a lot of fun!

6. Georg Jensen Sølv

Georg Jensen Sølv, Sølv meaning Silver, is an incredibly popular brand within Denmark. It is also one of the most common, along with Royal Copenhagen below, brands that are found within Danish apartments and homes.

From home decor and jewellery to Christmas baubles, this charming brand is a great entry into Scandinavian design at a reasonable price.

7. Royal Copenhagen

First founded in 1775, Royal Copenhagen is by far the most well known Scandinavian brand alongside IKEA. They are known best for their patented blue-patterned plates, bowls, and cups they make a great practical souvenir and reminder of your trip.

8. Nordic Nesting

This design store is a relative newcomer in comparison to the others on this list. However, that doesn’t mean they aren’t any less motivated when it comes to producing elegant, modern, and clean Scandinavian home decor at a reasonable price. There’s even stuff specifically for the kids, and no doubt they’ll find plenty of pieces they love.

So, if you’re hunting for an original piece of Danish design history, this is the place to look. With pieces from designers such as Arne Jacobsen, Finn Juhl, Poul Kjærholm, and Børge Mogensen, you’ll be spoilt for choice.

10. Oliver Gustav Studio

Working as a creative consultant focusing on both interior and exterior design, Oliver Gustav has just opened a new boutique store in the heart of Copenhagen. From mirrors to chairs, through to bowls and wall sculptures - there’s an industrial piece for all to add to their home.
